LAKESIDE RODEO GROUNDS - CATTLEMENS LOUNGE

The Lakeside Rodeo has been a cornerstone of community tradition since the 1930s. Over the years, residents and volunteers have kept the rodeos legacy alive through hard work and dedication to the community. At Southwest Construction Services, we’re proud to contribute to this legacy by rebuilding the Cattlemen's Lounge. On May 21, 2024, the former penthouses were demolished to make way for the new Cattlemen's Lounge.

The previous structure was severely outdated, infested with termites, and no longer ADA compliant. Because of this, the El Capitan Stadium Association decided in 2018 to begin raising funds for a new building. While the final result now stands proud, the project faced its fair share of challenges. Not many construction projects have to pause mid-build to accommodate a scheduled rodeo event. Few projects can claim such a unique timeline.

Southwest Construction has had the opportunity to work with many subcontractors over the years, but what made this project special was that 90% of the subcontractors involved were local East County businesses. Many of whom went above and beyond, donating time, materials, and labor to help bring the vision to life. Their generosity helped transform the project into a beautiful, functional centerpiece of the rodeo grounds, all while staying within a remarkably tight budget.

The result of these efforts in conjunction with Southwest Construction resulted in a modern, three-story building that now serves as the centerpiece of the rodeo grounds. The modern facility not only provides a welcoming space for events, gatherings, and celebrations, but also serves as a vital fundraising resource for local programs that help our youth thrive.
